The old woman smiled fondly at him. “It is all right to be frightened, child,” she crooned.
“I am not frightened of anything! Not even Hel!” Loki declared. “I will throw myself from the window and you will see how unfrightened I am!”
“Goodness, now you have frightened me!” the old woman said, eyebrows lifting high. “Why would you do such a thing?”
“I will not be a trophy!” Loki shrilled.
The old woman’s face formed a grim smile and she nodded slowly. “No. Not you,” she agreed quietly. “I will not see that fate befall you.”
